The grouper, or as it is called in some Arab countries, is one of the most favorite types of fish to eat, especially in the Arabian Gulf region. It is characterized by its soft white meat, which contains a lot of proteins and little fat.
Grouper fish live in the waters of the Arabian Gulf, the Indian Ocean, and the coasts of the Red Sea around marine rocks at the bottom, or near shipwrecks, marine installations and caves in the middle of the seas. Another type of fish, except for the small fish (Zamour), which usually accompany him while swimming in the water, as if guiding him, and these fish also accompany sharks.
The grouper feeds on fish, crustaceans, and squid, and one of its distinctive habits is that it hides in the large sea caves, opening its mouth, waiting for the fish to enter its mouth, and it does not know that it is swimming in its stomach, as it thinks that it is still inside the cave!
Most types of grouper fish reach a length of more than 150 centimeters and weigh more than 30 kilograms, especially those caught from the Indian Ocean.
Despite its huge size, it does not pose a threat to human life.
Experts use a special method to determine the age of grouper fish, through the shape of scales, the weight of the fish, and the shape of the gill bone, which is usually twice as wide as its length, with a thick pointed tip, in adult fish, and thin in small fish, and they generally live up to 22 years.
All grouper fish are characterized by the fact that they start their life as a female type, and then they turn into the male type. This transformation leads to an increase in their production, as a single male grouper fertilizes the eggs of a large number of other female fish.
The common grouper fish has a distinctive shape, as the upper part of the body is light brown in color, while the lower part tends to yellow, and the skin is decorated with dark brown spots in black, which it takes as a means of camouflage inside the water, which qualifies it to obtain its food easily.
Most types of grouper fish breed between the months of March and August, by laying non-sticky eggs that float on the surface of the water until they hatch, while other types lay sticky eggs that sink to the depths to settle there until they hatch.
(Arous Baha) is one of the distinctive species of grouper, characterized by its red color decorated with many blue spots with black edges, and its length is about 45 centimeters. As for the "quail grouper" fish, it is one of the most common species in the Gulf fish markets, the most important characteristic of which is the crescent-shaped tail, and the spots Reddish brown, while the general background color of the body is bluish-white. This species often reaches over 2 meters in length.
There are many other types of grouper such as sbiti, rock cod, creek grouper, black grouper, and cat grouper.
