The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has set next Monday as the date for the entry into force of the ban on fishing for "kingfish" fish on the coasts of the Arabian Gulf in the eastern region for a period of two months.

Amer Al-Mutairi, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture branch in the Eastern Region, explained that the ban includes the use of gillnet fishing nets (manazib, yarn), while fishing is permitted by the Hadaq method, provided that the length of the fish allowed to be caught is above 65 cm, with the aim of limiting the depletion of these species. of fish and maintaining a sustainable strategic stock, and giving mothers an opportunity to lay eggs during the ban period.

Al-Mutairi indicated that this ban is applied at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries with the aim of preserving mothers carrying eggs at the time of spawning and young kingfish, and giving the greatest opportunity for the process of reproduction and laying eggs.

For his part, the director of the Fisheries Research Center in Qatif, Engineer Walid Al-Shuwaird, confirmed that the center will continue to carry out inspection tours of landing centers and fishing harbours, indicating that legal measures will be applied against all violators.
